Lent 2, 5 March 2023

Gathering of the Community

Sign of Cross and Grace at entrance

(Welcome, Greeting & Theme)

Priest: As we continue in our Lenten journey, I invite you in the name of the Church to the observance of a holy Lent, by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by reading and meditating on God’s holy word.

(Silence is kept. Kyries)

Wash away all our iniquity

and cleanse us from our sin:

Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

Against you, you only have we sinned

and done what is evil in your sight:

Christ, have mercy. Christ, have mercy.

Create in us a pure heart, O God,

and renew a steadfast spirit within us:

Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

Holy God, holy and mighty, holy and immortal, have mercy on us.

Holy God, holy and mighty, holy and immortal, have mercy on us.

Processional Hymn: Change my heart O God

Act of Praise: Omit

Opening Prayer

Priest: Let us pray for grace to keep Lent faithfully (Silence)

Hope beyond all human hope,

you promised Abraham and Sarah

descendants as numerous as the stars.

You promise light and salvation

in the midst of darkness and despair,

and redemption to a world that will not listen. Gather us in tenderness

and open our ears to your word,

so that we may live faithfully and confidently in your promises.

We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ.

All: Amen.

Doxology (Longer)

Priest: All your works praise you, O Lord.

All: And your faithful servants bless you.

Gracious God, we thank you for feeding us with the body and blood of your Son, Jesus Christ. May we, who share his body, live his risen life; we, who drink his cup, bring life to others; we, whom the Spirit lights, give light to the world. Keep us firm in the hope you have set before us, so that we and all your children shall be free, and the whole earth live to praise your name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
