Notices for Week of 3 September 2023

Notices: Proper 22, 3 September 2023

Good day dear friends,

In the Gospel for today we hear Jesus teach: “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” We are so much more than self consciousness. We are so much more than our reason, emotion, memory and will. This small or false self is the self that we need to “lose” or die to, in order to discover a much deeper, richer and connected self. Your true and divine self is waiting to be discovered and lived out of – a Life that is abundant in Love.

Love

Father Gerald+

Holy Baptism. Today we welcome into the Body of Christ: Serenity Vida Mary Jane Kavanagh. Together let us say “yes” to the Way of Love, the Way of  Christ.

Please keep Deacon Gladys and her family in New Brunswick in your prayer. Her daughter is nearing end of life stages.

Our annual Jigs and Reels is being planned for September 30. $25 dollars for eat in or take out. We are also looking for donations to help offset the cost. For tickets or donations please contact Titania at 222-5224 or Roy at 222-4493.

A Parish Weekend is being planned for 23 and 24 September. There will be a free cold plate supper on the 23rd, at 6pm, followed by a presentation by the Diocesan Executive Officer, Archdeacon Charlene Taylor. Bishop Sam will also join us at the Sunday Liturgy as we celebrate the 17th Anniversary of the Dedication of the Oratory of the Resurrection.

Please contact Marilyn Snow (709) 683-3743 to place your supper order for the night of September 23.

As part of this weekend, the Mission and Outreach Committee and the Property and Finance Committee will meet on the afternoon of the 23rd from 1 to 4pm.

Preaching from the Presider’s Chair: Some have been asking why Father Gerald has been offering the homily from the presider’s chair and sitting down? The flexibility in the design of our oratory allows for various modes of delivery for preaching and teaching. Teaching from the presiders chair is one of those options.

Please remember to financially support our parish on Sunday’s, even when you are not there.

Children’s Church will resume on Sunday, September 10.

Sunday Lunch ministry will resume on Sunday, September 10.

If anyone would like to participate in preparing and sharing meals for the Sunday Lunch Ministry, please contact Bob Bishop at 683-0879.

Wednesday, September 20, we will resume:

Resurrection Yoga at 9:30

Scones and Tea from 10am to 1pm

Group Meditation at 11

Poetry at noon

The Way of Love at 1pm

AA at the Resurrection on Thursday nights at 8pm in the St.George Conference Room, and Sundays on Zoom at 8pm.

“Revive” is a program that helps equip lay leaders to be spiritual leaders. The participants will learn about themselves and discern their life’s calling; explore their faith journey and enter into a relationship with God; enjoy a sense of community and deepened relationships with peers; gain confidence with prayer, scripture, and spiritual leadership; and discern gifts for their calling to serve God’s world. Please pray for those participating in this program this fall.

The Sunday Liturgy is live steamed in real time on our Parish YouTube Channel at 11am on Sunday mornings (and can be watched anytime after that on YouTube).  It can also be picked up on our parish Facebook anytime after 12 noon on Sundays.

For those joining us on-line, we invite you to use this prayer for Spiritual Communion:

Lord Jesus, I believe that you are truly present in the Holy Sacrament. However, since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, I beseech you to come spiritually into my heart. I unite myself with you, and embrace you with all the affections of my soul. Let me never be separated from you. Let me live and die in your love. Amen.

Please use eTransfers to finance@anglicanresurrection.com to continue to support our ministry. You can also contact our treasurer Calvin Adams to set up automatic deposit. Or simply mail your offerings to Box 142 South River, A0A 3W0.
