    Prayer Matters – A Mini Conference

    Hosted by the Anglican Fellowship of Prayer Committee

    In the Diocese of Eastern Newfoundland and Labrador

    September 22-24, 2017

     

    The AFP Diocesan Committee is planning a mini prayer conference, Prayer Matters, in September 2017. The weekend begins with a healing service at St. Luke’s Church in Port-de-Grave on Friday, Sept 22 at 7:30 pm. The guest preacher will be The Rev. Laura Marie Piotrowicz. This is open to all who want to attend. No registration required.

     

    The prayer conference will take place at Holy Redeemer Church Hall in Spaniard’s Bay on Saturday, Sept. 23. Registration begins at 9:30am. Our guest speakers for the day will be The Rev. Laura Marie Piotrowicz and The Rev. Canon Gerald Westcott. There will also be presentations and music led by local members of our committee. During the day, we will discuss and practice various forms of prayer. Lunch will be provided. There is no cost to register but we do need to know how many people to prepare for. Registration deadline is Tuesday, Sept 19th. Register by emailing your name, home parish, email address and phone number to lynchchristine@hotmail.com or call (709)589-2848.

     

    The weekend will end with a closing worship service and Holy Eucharist at St. Peter’s Church in Upper Island Cove on Sunday, Sept 24 at 10:30am. The guest preacher will be The Rev. Laura Marie Piotrowicz. This event is also open to all who want to attend. No registration required.

    Our Guest Speakers

    The Rev. Laura Marie Piotrowicz has been working in ministry for 15 years, ordained 12 years (youth and parish ministries). She is rector of St John’s Port Dalhousie Anglican Church in St. Catherines, On. She was diocesan AFP rep 2012-2015 and a member of the AFP National Executive 2015-present. Her work within AFP includes working on Canada Prays, prayersofthepeople.org, Thy Kingdom Come, the AFP newsletter, and the AFP Facebook page. Her pastoral interests include: social justice, ecological justice, gender justice, and food security. She is currently working on DMin, studying correlation of prayer and burnout.

     

    The Rev. Canon Gerald Westcott is a teacher of contemplative practices and facilitator of meditation groups. He is a graduate of the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation, in Washington DC. He is the Canon for Spirituality in the Diocese of Eastern NL and Adjunct Faculty for Spiritual Practice at Queen’s College. He is also rector of the Parish of the Resurrection in South River, NL.
